Rainy Days and Thursdays

June 6, 2013 § 2 Comments

Most people complain about rainy days at the beach, but not me. I love them, crave them, pray for them. Sitting in a rocker on an open porch, waves crashing on the shore, Palmetto trees creaking and cracking in the wind—that’s my idea of a perfect day at the beach. There’s no need for an apology after napping. No need to explain the extra serving of cake, or a whole afternoon spent reading the latest mystery. What else is there to do?

And should it rain on a  Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, that’s just fine, as well. No crowds. Sparse traffic. No musical, revolving Ferris wheels, no squeals from water slides, no bumping, bumper cars. Streets washed clean, piers abandoned, beach pristine. Everyone is in school, at home, at work, or not here yet. Peace. The beach. God watering the flowers….Perfect.
